Upcoming December IBPC 2021:

#1 Post by Michael (MV) » 28 Nov 2021, 14:51

Voice your recommendation(s) here, and

Please let us know ASAP if you are not going to be available to represent the Writer's Block -

then we will know not to consider your poems further for this month's IBPC.

I/we will be looking for consensus - in keeping with a communal workshop environment

Which 1-3 would we like to see represent the Writer's Block in the finals?

After the 3 are selected, then will each author post - in this thread - the poem as the poet would like it forwarded,

and ALL the needed info/statements

Ideally, the only poems that really need to appear here are the final 3, when announced, hopefully by the 1st of the month, if not sooner

^^ the intent is organizational - if poems appear here before the selection of the final 3, then there is a congestion -

Until the final 3 are announced, please maintain poems & workshopping to the Workshop Forum. Thanks.

************

any newcomers or returnees this month, Welcome!

and here is a home link to the IBPC rules: http://ibpc.webdelsol.com/rules

In this thread, from the poems posted in the workshop forum during the course of the month, recommend/nominate by title & author.

Nominated poets, please acknowledge the nomination here in this thread.
Please reply by accepting or declining the nomination - in this thread.

Please note & observe: This is not a workshopping thread.

In this thread, poems that are ultimately selected to represent the Block are then posted here
as the author would like for the poem to be forwarded
along with all IBPC required info.

When the 1-3 poems are decided upon, and permission granted by each author of the selected poems,

along with all the info needed by each author:

1/Your name

2/e-mail address

3/statement that the poem is your original

4/and unpublished work

5/and that you don't have a poem committed to represent another board in the current IBPC. One poet one poem one board
for each monthly,

6/and the poem as you would like it forwarded to the finals.

^^ All of the above is the usual needed info as part of the process.

I will then forward the 1-3 to the IBPC finals.

Thanks

Michael (MV)

Update 12/4 Re Upcoming December IBPC 2021:

#6 Post by Michael (MV) » 05 Dec 2021, 02:15

1/ Yes, Ken's For God & Country - Ken please post & provide the usual needed info - Thanks, Ken.

2a/ I recommend Billy's Swiftly Now this time; then next time Billy's my father.

Or

2b/ How about Billy deciding which One of those 2 he would like to represent the Writer's Block with?

3/ Bob, again, poet's choice -

Although my poetic preference is Vietnam Memorial, Bob, if available to represent the WB, which one of your poems posted in November would you like to represent with?

Although, I recommend this triumvirate

For God and Country
Vietnam Memorial
Swiftly Now

I await your Responses for accepting and declining, if that be the case.

Bob, Billy, if accepting please post the poem you have decided on, along with the needed info.

Thanks,

😎

This is my original, unpublished poem. I am not representing any other forum this month.

Vietnam Memorial

I never knew Tommy,
my older brother. He was a name
Mom teared up over.

Mom said he was in heaven
looking down on us.
I had an image in my head

of heaven as a bridge
over a pond—
a bridge where Tommy sat,

gazing down at us
all dressed up on Sundays
with our faces bright, like koi.

Today Sis went with us
to meet Tommy. Her dress a pastel blue
like her favorite fish, the ochiba.

Ochiba is Japanese
for “leaves that have fallen”.
We searched for Tommy’s name

on that long black stream
of a wall. When Dad found it
he crumbled to his knees.

Mom, sobbing, left flowers
and a handwritten note
on the ground.

Our reflections
hovering together like koi
in the gleaming blackness,

we turned and drifted away,
Sis waving back.
The sky was filled

with cumulus, the clouds
like crumpled tissues being blown
about at the wall's
base.

For God And Country

Now I see my father at fifteen,
gangly in T-shirt and khakis.
On the back stoop is a galvanized
bucket of crushed Camels.

Four years later, he will join the Army
the Monday after Pearl Harbor.
They made him a ball turret gunner,
twin fifties, floor full of hot brass.

He speaks to me with string
and two tin cans. "Tell them I
did my duty," he buzzes, " I did not
mean to bring the war home."

I watched him live long enough
to lose his mind. In the burnished
glaze of spit- shine and boot-black,
you can almost see your reflection.

original unpublished poem. Not entered at any other forum. ashworthken@yahoo.com

Michael
You were hoping this would go this month,
Why don't you enter this one:

"Roll back the tombstone" (diptych for a poet born October 31, 1795)

I'll never live to see that beauty, that beauty, that same sad beauty again -- S.Nicks lyric

the taxidermied jack-o-lantern I hear John Keats
a petrified pastoral

a forever bright my brother's voice
orange, but artificial glow:

Halloween cast freed from the urn
a Grecian urn

Nominated by Ieuan.

this is my original work
it is not published
I'm not representing any other board

my father

i remember him
so pitiful
his heart would go crazy
and whole oak tables
would shake in his grip

and i wondered
what force
drove the small wheel
of this man's being
i wanted it all to stop

his very heart
to stop
because the shaking
wouldn't stop
until he stopped

because everything he held
shook fiercely
and i thought there was nothing
he held more tightly
than me
