Upcoming March IBPC 2021:

#1 Post by Michael (MV) » 26 Feb 2021, 04:36

Voice your recommendation(s) here, and

Please let us know ASAP if you are not going to be available to represent the Writer's Block -

then we will know not to consider your poems further for this month's IBPC.

I/we will be looking for consensus - in keeping with a communal workshop environment

Which 1-3 would we like to see represent the Writer's Block in the finals?

After the 3 are selected, then will each author post - in this thread - the poem as the poet would like it forwarded,

and ALL the needed info/statements

Ideally, the only poems that really need to appear here are the final 3, when announced, hopefully by the 1st of the month, if not sooner

^^ the intent is organizational - if poems appear here before the selection of the final 3, then there is a congestion -

Until the final 3 are announced, please maintain poems & workshopping to the Workshop Forum. Thanks.

************

any newcomers or returnees this month, Welcome!

and here is a home link to the IBPC rules: http://ibpc.webdelsol.com/rules

In this thread, from the poems posted in the workshop forum during the course of the month, recommend/nominate by title & author.

Nominated poets, please acknowledge the nomination here in this thread.
Please reply by accepting or declining the nomination - in this thread.

Please note & observe: This is not a workshopping thread.

In this thread, poems that are ultimately selected to represent the Block are then posted here
as the author would like for the poem to be forwarded
along with all IBPC required info.

When the 1-3 poems are decided upon, and permission granted by each author of the selected poems,

along with all the info needed by each author:

1/Your name

2/e-mail address

3/statement that the poem is your original

4/and unpublished work

5/and that you don't have a poem committed to represent another board in the current IBPC. One poet one poem one board
for each monthly,

6/and the poem as you would like it forwarded to the finals.

^^ All of the above is the usual needed info as part of the process.

I will then forward the 1-3 to the IBPC finals.

Thanks

Michael (MV)

Waiting for responses, here in this thread, from those nominated, so we can move forward. Thanks.

Thanks, Billy, Meena, Bob and Ken for nominating:

"The Heart is not earthbound"

I am not representing elsewhere(no one else will have me 😄

and I accept; and with 4 noms, it is not premature or inappropriate to announce this original & unpublished poem as 1 of the 3 to go to the finals.

Thanks,

Michael (MV)

My original, unpublished poem
and not represented elsewhere.

Ode to My Ears

Could I hope for better silent partners
than my ears? Skilled censors,
they filter out excessive noise.

Otherwise I'd be overwhelmed,
like a man caught in an open field,
the sky everywhere a waterfall.

Who gives me the pleasure of music
but those recording engineers,
the ears? Music soothes me more

than a walk by running water,
my stress dissolving
like sugar spilled into a creek.

Who do I have to thank
other than those dears,
the ears, for staying alert as I nap?

For picking out my boss' voice
approaching my cubicle, a sound
harsher than that of boots

on gravel. I have a small
coterie of employees
--hands, feet, elbows and more,

all queuing up for employee of the month.
My ears often the winner,
especially in my youth

when music was a language shared
by all my friends. Even now
I wonder how I can acknowledge

their value. I recall when Valerie
looked straight at me and whispered
"I love you". I didn't need to know

how to read lips to know
I'd often be the reason for Val
being late to work. Ears,

how can I ever repay
such a debt?

Thanks, Ken, for your voicing of noms, which is advancing the process, here on the 4th.

Although I'm reading, and respecting, that you are sitting this one out,

the Writer's Block could go to the finals with 3.

If there is not an accept for a 3rd by March 5th, Ken, then would you.

Thank you, Ken,

Michael (MV)

Update March 4th re Upcoming March IBPC 2021:

#12 Post by Michael (MV) » 04 Mar 2021, 17:29

Although I prefer meenas' Input Output poem,

the Ganges poem, according to what I'm reading in this thread, has two nominations,

and if meenas will accept & provide in this thread ASAP the needed info and poem,

then meenas' "On The Banks Of Ganges" will be the 3rd selection to be forwarded.

I will PM meenas before morning coffee.

A Boys Life

When Jesus was a kid
he turned three boys

Into sparrows because
they pissed him off.

No matter how many times
his Mom tried to tell him,

You are different, You are special.
You are meant for something

bigger, all he wanted was
to be a fireman when he grew up.

He could have been big
In real estate or the Market-

head of his own company,
but he gave himself to the

sick, the poor and the needy.
He blessed the meek

stood up for the outcast, the
downtrodden and the weary.

Today there is not a single bridge
or airport named after him,

though they say he still has our
backs and is never far away.

He really doesn't mind if you toss
a coin now and then for luck

as long as you remember the widow
and orphan in their time of distress,

for in his eyes, this is pure
and undefiled religion.

On The Banks Of River Ganges

River Ganges flows
in silence, in its
journey meets
cross sections
of people.

Quietly provides
solace, to the guilty,
to the cruel, to those
who feel for the misdoings.

A dip in the holy waters
purifies one,
destroys the sins
papanasam.

Good find beatitude,
bad receive blessings,
an impartial phenomenon
experienced nowhere.

On its banks lies
Varanasi, the ancient city
where Hindus seeks
atonement,

The holy place is right
on the Trishool
Trident of Lord shiva.
Hindus wish to die here

as it breaks the cycle of rebirth
one attains salvation. One of Brahma's
five head torn by Shiva,
gets dropped from Shiva's hold
at this place and disappears.

The city known as Kasi
attains glory at this phase
transforms to a holy site.
sacred to the Hindus.

Mark Twain puts it, {Benares
another name for Varanasi}
"Benares is older than history,
older than tradition, older even than legend,
and looks twice as old as all of them put together."
