Would Isabel fail the AS thin skin test?

Only if we critique her work, or her teaching.

I would like to do a reversal and ask an Author Salon agent to weigh in on plot reversals. I am still playing with plot point and reversal point and mixing them up. Isabel Allende is no help.

Re: Author Salon, Agent Query - Isabel and Woody
The way Author Salon explains in the Six Act 2G, we need a couple of reversals. Plot points in the general sense, but not as AS defines for purposes of the Six Act 2G outline. I think they're trying to keep them separate to prevent any possible confusion.
That's how I interpret.
I'm not sure how Isabel would interpret.

I JUST REVERSED MY REVERSAL!!!! This new talk made me think. Dangerous!
Re: Author Salon, Agent Query - Isabel and Woody
I sincerely hope the Isabel bashing will come to an end soon. We can feel free to disagree with her, yes, but let's chill a bit.

"Reversal" (peripeteia via Aristotle) occurs when a situation seems to develop one way, then suddenly "reverses" to another. For example, when Oedipus first hears of the death of Polybus (his supposed father), the news at first seems good, but then is revealed to be disastrous.JosiePackard wrote:I would like to do a reversal and ask an Author Salon agent to weigh in on plot reversals. That sounds serious, I know, and it is. All just part of the storytelling process. The art of it doesn't change, only the nature of the stories and the premise.
Please take note.

I was looking over the Author Salon Six Act 2G again and reviewing what you said. I apologize for not saying thank you earlier. It's summer and lots of distractions!

No worries. I've been a bit distracted also. btw, "Misery" by King is one of the clearest examples of a Six Act 2G reversal.
There are those who will decry adhering to reversal points as formula, but if you desire to be a commercial fiction author, it's just these types of points that make a tremendous difference to the structural tension of the story. Again, all just part of good storytelling.

I have also heard that formula complaint, here and there, and it was from writers who IMO were looking for a reason to avoid working out a real plot outline. They were happy with their novel manuscript and did not want to alter a thing.
Of course, they failed to break into publication. One self-published, and made herself happy with that outcome. All you can do is nod your head and smile.

Toured Brazil while using the Snowflake method religiously until I realized I was most certainly snowflaking a story that could never be published. Now I believe I am working on a story that appears to be publishable.

Only if you kick her little Camelot butt into a kick-ass character, or we are back to snowflake chance in hell.ActressTurningWriter wrote:Toured Brazil while using the Snowflake method religiously until I realized I was most certainly snowflaking a story that could never be published. I just got back from a LD party and saw the video post above and all I can say is OMG, LET'S ALL QUIT AUTHOR SALON RIGHT NOW!
We'll watch this video over and over and over and snowflake ourselves into contracts. How simple can it get everyone? WHOOO!

And now, let me tell you about another loser ... Did she say, 100 pages for the submission? Remove the double spaces and we're not even in novella territory.

The goal is to produce a superior study guide for methodical use by Author Salon writers. In many respects, it's already better than anything else available outside AS.

Created new forum for this topic. Thanks!
Re: Author Salon - Reviews, Talk, Films
Just dropping a note that four of the writers in this thread got contracts. One was a good independent press and the other three New York publishers including St. Martins and Harper Collins.
