Ode to Olive Oil

Ode to Olive Oil

We could be standing on the north side
of the Acropolis under a cobalt sky,

a twisted olive tree leaning
towards us. It was here

long before we moved in, with silvery
grey leaves and feathery

white flowers. Tonight we'll enjoy
Bistecca alla Fiorentina

and a salad enhanced
with virgin olive oil

and a lemony vinaigrette.
At bedtime I'll stroke your hair,

silky from combings with warm
olive oil, and admire

your pretty figure, your dark
olive eyes--as Mozart once

took in his beloved Constanze. Ah,
if only the Greek saying was true,

sweetheart, I would fill our basement
with bottles of liquid sun.

You know the saying, how love
is guaranteed with a daily spoonful

I think of Palestine when it comes to olive trees. There is a satisfying warmth in this Bob. Very approachable
