In Jesus' Tomb
In Jesus' tomb, I read they
found a pair of brass knuckles.
I believe if he were alive today
he'd ride a big Harley Davidson,
give everyone a bear hug and say
" How's it going brother?"

Nice, jazzy upbeat contemporary feel to this...

There was a poster popular in the 70's called The Laughing Christ. The guy looked like Grizzly Adams with longer hair. Ever see it?
Re: In Jesus' Tomb
I guess we would always rather make him in our image rather than make ourselves in his image.

Re: In Jesus' Tomb
Fair enough Billy. I often think ( and write) about what he may have been like as a man. He was tempted by the same things we are. I like to think how he would be viewed in the 21 st century.
My brother the Baptist preacher thinks it's blasphemy to say " Jesus peed". I love the idea of him knotting a rope to whip the money changers, often wonder what dejection he must've felt when his own brothers didn't believe in him, ( though the Marian sect of catholicism days Mary had no more children through intercourse). How abandoned he felt in the garden.
I know that physically he was a beast due to his occupation. Not an ounce of body fat
So yeah. I'll use an over the top metaphor, but it's meant as art not disrespect.
My brother says that today, Jesus wouldn't be qualified to preach in most churches because he has no doctoral degree.
One idea intrigued me. We don't know for sure when Joseph died , but he at least entered adulthood without his father's guidance.
Thanks for reading and commenting

Here’s a poem I like about Jesus:
By Their Works
Bob Hicok
Who cleaned up the Last Supper?
These would be my people.
Maybe hung over, wanting
desperately a better job,
standing with rags
in hand as the window
beckons with hills
of yellow grass. In Da Vinci,
the blue robed apostle
gesturing at Christ
is saying, give Him the check.
What a mess they've made
of their faith. My God
would put a busboy
on earth to roam
among the waiters
and remind them to share
their tips. The woman
who finished one
half eaten olive
and scooped the rest
into her pockets,
walked her tiny pride home
to children who looked
at her smile and saw
the salvation of a meal.
All that week
at work she ignored
customers who talked
of Rome and silk
and crucifixions,
though she couldn't stop
thinking of this man
who said thank you
each time she filled
His glass.

Damn. I wish I could write like that
Re: In Jesus' Tomb
You can't, and I can't. But you write like you and there are times I say the same thing about your writing.

Re: In Jesus' Tomb
Hi Billy,
I am familiar with this poem. I was so taken with it when I first encountered it, that I covered it at an open reading on a Good Friday, about 15 years ago. Also, back in the day, a poem of mine was included in an issue of MELIC with Bob Hicok.
Billy, thanks for resurrecting a memory from my younger years, by your work of posting this poem.

Re: In Jesus' Tomb
Hi Kenneth,
1/ Re "In Jesus' tomb" as title, then repeated as initial words of a short poem -
At first, I was going to workshop-suggest In Christ's tomb or In the tomb of Christ for the title space; and that is an option
But that last image prompts me to first suggest instead for the title space: Easy Rider
2/ The last didn't feel quite complete; then I heard this:
give everyone a bear hug and say
" How's it going brother?"
and truly mean it.
I usually always find appealing art that refers to the incarnate; yours, Kenneth, is no exception.
