Upcoming October IBPC 2022:

#1 Post by Michael (MV) » 30 Sep 2022, 12:36

Voice your recommendation(s) here, and

Please let us know ASAP if you are not going to be available to represent the Writer's Block -

then we will know not to consider your poems further for this month's IBPC.

I/we will be looking for consensus - in keeping with a communal workshop environment

Which 1-3 would we like to see represent the Writer's Block in the finals?

After the 3 are selected, then will each author post - in this thread - the poem as the poet would like it forwarded,

and ALL the needed info/statements

Ideally, the only poems that really need to appear here are the final 3, when announced, hopefully by the 1st of the month, if not sooner

^^ the intent is organizational - if poems appear here before the selection of the final 3, then there is a congestion -

Until the final 3 are announced, please maintain poems & workshopping to the Workshop Forum. Thanks.

************

any newcomers or returnees this month, Welcome!

and here is a home link to the IBPC rules: http://ibpc.webdelsol.com/rules

In this thread, from the poems posted in the workshop forum during the course of the month, recommend/nominate by title & author.

Nominated poets, please acknowledge the nomination here in this thread.
Please reply by accepting or declining the nomination - in this thread.

Please note & observe: This is not a workshopping thread.

In this thread, poems that are ultimately selected to represent the Block are then posted here
as the author would like for the poem to be forwarded
along with all IBPC required info.

When the 1-3 poems are decided upon, and permission granted by each author of the selected poems,

along with all the info needed by each author:

1/Your name

2/e-mail address

3/statement that the poem is your original

4/and unpublished work

5/and that you don't have a poem committed to represent another board in the current IBPC. One poet one poem one board
for each monthly,

6/and the poem as you would like it forwarded to the finals.

^^ All of the above is the usual needed info as part of the process.

I will then forward the 1-3 to the IBPC finals.

Thanks

Michael (MV)

In The Beginning Again

Jupiter has fifty three named moons
and I want to marry them all,

buy a castle in the mountains
where each would have her own hill.

We'll birth new worlds, and I'll
jostle them on my lap gently

say, ' there, there' , feed them
with a bottle. I - the polygamoonist-

am Father to a peopleless universe.
Maybe a few good light- years left.

Original, unpublished poem. I’m not representing another forum.

Maggie, There Aren’t Enough Cherry Trees

Some things I remain crazy about:
“Wild Nights” by Emily Dickinson,
Mozart’s piano concertos, Maggie…

whom I loved more than the 60s.
Often I grow nostalgic over anything
that begins with “M”—Marichal,

McCovey, Maggie…
Yes, it’s obvious. I’m old.
I’m being swept out of this world.

I drag my feet. I apply the brakes
as I would pressure to a bullet wound.
Delay, delay, delay is my strategy.

Soak in everything. A.E. Housman
knew the end was approaching
when he had 50 springs left.

Imagine having less than a dozen.
There aren’t enough Maggies in this world.
And not enough time to lie under

all the cherry trees, their shredding blooms
awash in gusts, snowy petals
foaming like windy surf.

Ieuan, Ken & I have already posted our poems here. It’s not a hard & fast rule… most of us have done so for a long time. So just post yours & Michael can forward them. Billy is representing another forum. So no one else will be nominated. Best, Bob

This is mine, original unpublished
not representing any other board.

Majesty

She had always been there
Ever since I could remember
When a boy in short trousers
I watched her in monochrome
on Pathé News at the cinema
wearing the khaki of a mechanic,
driving lorries in WW2

She was as familiar as boiled egg
for breakfast with a cup of tea
With her cheery smile and her sister, Margaret,
Walking her kennel of corgwn
My school watched her wedding to Phillip
in brilliant Kodachrome at the cinema
Schoolchildren received a chocolate biscuit
And mug embossed with the happy couple

I watched her coronation on TV
As the new age unfolded, when her lords
Shouted, “God save the Queen.”
The oil of absolution applied
Under a cowl-the secret of majesty
I loved her, took her for granted
Thought she was eternal
Presidents and Prime Ministers came
And went. She remained
Special, a royal royal to the end.
